NITDA and Cisco Forge Partnership to Boost Productivity

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cisco International to enhance skills development and implement national training programs aimed at nurturing new talent while reskilling and upskilling existing professionals to meet future demands.

Dr. Kashifu Abdullahi Inuwa, the Director General of NITDA, and Clayton Naidoo, Cisco’s Country Director, signed the MoU in Abuja. They emphasized that the collaboration is in line with Nigeria’s ambition to increase digital literacy by 2030.

The partnership seeks to expedite the diversification of Nigeria’s economy by boosting productivity across vital sectors such as agriculture, education, health, and social services through technological innovation.

Inuwa outlined key areas of collaboration, including upgrading the National Artificial Intelligence Centre to a world-class AI lab, implementing cybersecurity measures to safeguard AI systems, formulating a national broadband plan to achieve 95% coverage in Nigeria, and introducing smart agriculture technology to address socio-economic challenges.

He noted that the smart agricultural technology initiative aims to expedite solutions for irrigating over 500,000 farmlands, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to bolster food security.

In line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes delivering digital services through technological solutions like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and drones, NITDA’s DG underscored the commitment to addressing Nigeria’s critical issues.

Clayton Naidoo, Cisco’s Country Director, highlighted the significant benefits of the MoU, including improved agricultural production, job creation, and financial empowerment for Nigerians.

Naidoo affirmed Cisco’s commitment to developing inclusive modules to empower local communities in Nigeria and provide them with opportunities in the digital services sector and related fields.
