NiMet Predicts Three Days of Rain and Thunderstorms Starting Monday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted a series of thundery and rainy weather conditions across the country from Monday to Wednesday.

In a statement, NiMet indicated that cloudy skies are expected over the southern regions during the morning hours on Monday. The agency also predicted intermittent rain showers later in the day over parts of Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom states.

For Tuesday, NiMet anticipates thunderstorms in the morning over parts of Taraba State, with afternoon and evening thunderstorms expected in Bauchi, Kaduna, Kebbi, Gombe, and Yobe states. The North Central region, particularly Plateau and Nasarawa states, is likely to experience intermittent rains in the morning, followed by thunderstorms or rain in the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Benue, and Plateau states later in the day.

On Wednesday, NiMet predicts morning thunderstorms over Kaduna State, with further thunderstorms anticipated in Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Adamawa, Taraba, and Kebbi states later in the day. Intermittent rain showers are also expected across parts of Niger, Benue, Plateau, and the Federal Capital Territory during the morning, with moderate rains and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

In the southern regions, intermittent rains with the possibility of drizzle in some areas are expected throughout the forecast period.

NiMet has cautioned residents to avoid flood-prone areas due to the high likelihood of urban flooding in major cities from heavy downpours. The agency also warned that strong winds may precede rainfall in areas with expected thunderstorms, advising the public to take necessary precautions and follow safety advisories issued by relevant authorities.

Airline operators and the general public are encouraged to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts from NiMet for effective planning. Residents are urged to regularly check weather updates on the NiMet website at www.nimet.gov.ng.
