Abuja, Nigeria — The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected a stretch of weather disturbances across the country, with thunderstorms and rainfall expected from Saturday through Monday, according to a weather outlook released in Abuja over the weekend.
The agency disclosed that early morning thunderstorms would affect areas in the northern part of the country, including Taraba, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Adamawa States.
Later in the day, storm activity is expected to intensify in additional northern states such as Borno, Sokoto, Gombe, and Bauchi, alongside continued activity in Taraba, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Kaduna.
In its update, NiMet noted that:
“For the North-Central zone, areas like Benue, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) should expect morning thunderstorms. As the day progresses, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are forecast over Kwara, Kogi, and other central states.”
For residents in the southern region, a generally cloudy morning is expected, with a likelihood of rainfall in parts of Enugu, Ebonyi, Cross River, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa States, the agency noted, as reported by Channels Television.
Additionally, NiMet forecast evening thunderstorms with rain over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara, Gombe, Kaduna, and Bauchi States, suggesting widespread weather activity throughout the forecast period.
The agency advises the public to stay informed and take necessary precautions, particularly in areas prone to flooding or storm-related disruptions.
