Abuja, Nigeria — The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has reiterated the importance of updating National Identification Number (NIN) details exclusively through its official self-service portal to ensure data security and prevent unauthorized access.
In a statement released on Monday by the Head of Corporate Communications, the commission assured Nigerians that its self-service platform is designed for efficiency, security, and ease of use, enabling individuals to update their details remotely.
NIMC emphasized that all modifications must be carried out strictly via SelfserviceModification.nimc.gov.ng, warning that using unofficial websites could expose individuals to identity theft and data breaches.
“To safeguard personal information, all NIN updates must be performed through the official NIMC self-service portal. Engaging with unverified platforms could put users at serious risk,” the statement cautioned.
The commission further highlighted that the self-service portal reduces the need for physical visits to enrollment centers while maintaining data integrity.
“By accessing the official platform, Nigerians can conveniently update their information from any location without compromising their security,” NIMC affirmed.
