ABUJA, NIGERIA– Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, has commenced training camp in preparation for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
With the team’s World Cup hopes hanging in the balance, head coach Éric Chelle is under pressure to revive Nigeria’s qualification campaign. The Super Eagles have had a poor start, with three draws and one defeat in four matches, leaving them in fifth place with only three points.
As of Monday morning, six players had arrived at the training camp, including star striker Victor Osimhen, defender Bruno Onyemaechi, and midfielder Papa Mustapha. Goalkeepers Kayode Bankole and Amas Obasogie, as well as forward Tolu Arokodare, have also joined the squad.
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has urged the team to show resilience and character in the must-win fixtures. Coach Chelle has emphasized tactical discipline and finishing in training sessions, as the Eagles have struggled to convert chances in recent matches.
