Nigeria’s government confirms it remains committed to fulfilling the agreement with labor.

The Nigerian government has reiterated its commitment to fulfilling the agreements made with organized labor concerning the overall welfare of workers and related issues. This affirmation was made in a statement by Segun Imohiosen, the Director of Information in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Abuja.

Imohiosen disclosed that the Federal Government conducted a review of the commitments made with organized labor during a meeting attended by dignitaries including Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment.

Significant progress has been reported in the implementation of these agreements, with the government having already disbursed payments for four out of the six months’ wage award promised to organized labor.

Imohiosen stated, “Out of the N35,000 wage award for six months, the government has already paid for four months up to December 31, 2023. The remaining two months for January and February 2024 are currently in process.”

Furthermore, the Federal Government has established a 37-member Minimum Wage Committee tasked with reviewing and determining a fair and sustainable minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

Regarding the provision of CNG buses and conversion kits to address transportation challenges faced by Nigerians, Imohiosen highlighted the government’s significant financial commitments towards this initiative, assuring that the buses will soon be deployed to alleviate the transportation difficulties encountered by citizens.
