Nigerian Singer Davido Cheers on Chess Master Tunde Onakoya in Guinness World Record Bid

Renowned Afrobeats artist Davido made a surprise appearance at New York’s Times Square on Thursday in support of Nigerian chess master Tunde Onakoya’s quest to break the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon.

Onakoya commenced his endeavor to surpass the current Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon, aiming for 58 consecutive hours, starting on Wednesday, April 17.

Davido, fresh off a sold-out performance at New York’s Madison Square Garden, graced the occasion to offer encouragement to his fellow Nigerian.

Videos circulating on social media captured the heartwarming moments as the singer and the jubilant chess master embraced and celebrated together.

Scheduled to conclude today, April 19, Onakoya’s chess marathon has garnered support from various quarters, including fellow Nigerian artist Adekunle Gold, who visited the venue on Wednesday and made contributions towards the live streaming of the event.

Thus far, Onakoya has emerged victorious in all his matches, including a notable encounter against New York’s National Chess Master, Shawn Martinez.
