Nigerian prison officer allegedly kills colleague over a food disagreement.
A tragic incident occurred at the Burra Correctional Center in Ningi local government area of Bauchi State, Nigeria, where a personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) named Kabiru Abubakar allegedly killed his colleague, Aliyu Chiroma, following a dispute over food.
According to reports, the disagreement between the two correctional officials escalated when Chiroma brought food for lunch, and Abubakar insisted on sharing the meal with him against Chiroma’s wishes.
This disagreement quickly turned into a physical confrontation, leading to Abubakar headbutting Chiroma, causing him to fall to the ground. Despite being rushed to General Hospital Burra for medical treatment, Chiroma tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The spokesperson of NCoS, Bauchi State Command, Aminu Ahmed, confirmed the incident, stating that it took place outside the correctional facility.
Both the deceased, who hailed from Giade local government area, and the suspect, who is from Dass local government area, were serving at the Burra Correctional Center. The body of the deceased has been handed over to his family for burial.
The Chairman of Ningi local government area, Nasiru Zakari, also verified the incident and expressed his sorrow over the tragic event.
He stated that he had received a report of the unfortunate incident at the Burra Correctional Center, where one officer allegedly killed another officer during a disagreement over lunch.
