Nigerian police officer wins Bantamweight championship in south Africa.

Corporal Juliet Chukwu of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has emerged as the bantamweight champion at the prestigious Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC119) in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The victory was announced on Saturday in a statement signed by the NPF Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

The statement highlighted that Corporal Chukwu’s accomplishment reflects the rising global prominence of Nigerian athletes and underscores the NPF’s commitment to fostering excellence in sports.

“The Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has once again brought honor to the nation as one of its own, Corporal Juliet Chukwu, clinched the bantamweight championshipGolf: McIlroy Wins DP World Tour Championship title with an outstanding display of skill and determination at EFC119 in Johannesburg,” the statement read.

The Inspector-General praised Chukwu’s success as a testament to the Force’s efforts to support its officers in achieving greatness across various disciplines, including the rapidly growing sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

As part of these efforts, the IGP reaffirmed the NPF’s dedication to the development of MMA within the Force.

Key initiatives include the official introduction of MMA through the formation of the Nigeria Police MMA Association, sponsorship of the first-ever IGP MMA Open National Championship and Stakeholders Sensitization Seminar, and the approved demonstration of MMA at the upcoming 14th Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA)—Oluyole 2024.

The statement emphasized that the NPF will continue to support Corporal Chukwu and other police athletes in their pursuit of excellence.

It further reiterated the Force’s ambition to achieve greater success in various fields, including sports.

“This year, the Nigeria Police Force has recorded significant achievements in personnel efficiency, crime-bursting operations, anti-corruption reforms, and now in the area of sports,” the statement noted.

The IGP concluded by reaffirming the NPF’s commitment to organizational growth and the development of talent within its ranks.
