The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has announced that the 5,937 soldiers who recently graduated from Depot NA will be deployed to combat banditry, cattle rustling, and related crimes in various parts of the country.
Addressing the audience during the passing out parade for the 86 Regular Recruit intake of the Depot Nigeria Army in Zaria, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja emphasized that the new soldiers would play a crucial role in addressing the numerous security challenges confronting Nigeria.
He highlighted that these fresh troops would be instrumental in addressing insurgency in the northeast, banditry and cattle rustling in the northwest, farmers-herders clashes in the North-Central, as well as secessionist agitation, cultism in the South-East, militancy, and vandalism of critical national assets and infrastructure in the South-South and South-West regions.
Furthermore, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja stressed that training is an ongoing process in the military, mentioning that the Nigerian Army has implemented post-Depot training programs to enhance the soldiers’ proficiency in handling various weapons and equipment, making them more effective in combat situations. He also emphasized the Army’s commitment to improving welfare packages to support soldiers in meeting their medical, recreational, and educational needs to facilitate their career advancement.
Acknowledging the sacrifices required of soldiers, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja commended the 5,937 recruits for choosing a life of service to their country and upholding their allegiance. He reminded them of the dedication and discipline expected of soldiers, emphasizing their essential role in safeguarding the nation.
Finally, he urged the new soldiers not to disappoint the expectations of the Nigerian Army and the nation, urging them to fulfill their duties with commitment, loyalty, and integrity.
