The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, has commended African Natural Resources and Mines Limited for its role in driving local value addition in Nigeria’s mining sector. This recognition came during the commissioning of the country’s first ultra-modern mineral analysis laboratory in Sabon-Wuse, Niger State.
Dr. Alake described the facility as a milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to revamp the mining industry, aligning with his 7-point agenda for sectoral reform and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He emphasized the significance of the internationally certified laboratory in eliminating the need to send mineral samples abroad, positioning Nigeria as a key player in global mineral analysis.
“This lab not only supports the President’s agenda but also reinforces our ministry’s focus on local value addition. Its establishment marks a significant step in advancing Nigeria’s mining sector,” Dr. Alake stated, while assuring the company of the Federal Government’s support for investments that create jobs and strengthen the economy.
The Group Managing Director of African Natural Resources and Mines Limited, Mr. Alok Gupta, highlighted the laboratory’s cutting-edge capabilities, including the use of advanced WDXRF technology for solid mineral analysis. He also noted the facility’s ISO 7025 accreditation from the Canadian Association of Laboratory Accreditation and other international bodies.
“The lab is fully equipped to deliver comprehensive geochemical services tailored to the exploration and mining industries. This initiative will enhance local capacity and boost Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global mining value chain,” Gupta said.
The facility is expected to play a crucial role in advancing Nigeria’s mining ambitions, fostering innovation, and attracting further investment into the sector.
