Nigeria’s exports to member countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) totaled N1.54 trillion in the third quarter of 2024, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The report revealed that imports from the ECOWAS region amounted to N82 billion, resulting in a significant trade surplus.
Ivory Coast emerged as Nigeria’s largest trading partner within the bloc, importing goods valued at N662.71 billion, followed by Togo, which accounted for N574.93 billion. Together, these two nations represented 97.6 percent of Nigeria’s total exports to ECOWAS during the period under review.
Petroleum oils and oils derived from bituminous minerals dominated Nigeria’s exports, accounting for N1.29 trillion, or 83.45 percent, of total goods sent to ECOWAS nations.
The NBS further highlighted that the top five exported commodities made up 93.19 percent of total exports within the region, underscoring the dominance of a few key products in Nigeria’s trade profile.
