“Nigeria introduces annual fee for vehicle ownership verification”

In a major development, Nigeria’s government has implemented a new annual fee for vehicle owners. Effective July 2023, motorists in Lagos State will be required to pay N1,000 for the Proof of Ownership Certificate (POC) verification.

This groundbreaking certificate aims to ensure the integrity of registered vehicles in the National Vehicle and Identification Scheme (NVIS) database, enabling effective tracking of car theft and recovery. The POC also offers additional advantages, including streamlined verification of motor vehicle documents across all states, enhanced safety and security measures for vehicles and their owners, and the bolstering of the national vehicle database for vital national security and economic planning.

This move aligns with the government’s commitment to transparency, security, and accountability within the transportation network.
