Nigeria’s male and female table tennis teams are making great strides in their pursuit of more medals at the African Games as they smoothly advanced to the next round of the team event.
The men’s team progressed to the quarter-finals of the team competition, while the women’s team swiftly reached the semi-finals on Wednesday.
In Group 2 of the men’s team event, Nigeria’s Matthew Kuit and Amadi Omeh defeated the trio from Mauritania – Ahmed El Hacen, Ahmed Youssef, and Sagna Hamina – 3-0 in their first match before triumphing over DR Congo’s Kassa Gedon and Christian Mbongia with the same scoreline in their second group match.
In the women’s team event, the trio of Offiong Edem, Esther Oribamise, and Fatimo Bello also secured two victories in their group.

They emerged victorious against their counterparts from Madagascar – Hanitra Raharimanana, Mahenika Andriamanatena, and Ranto Rakotondrazaka – as well as Algeria’s Lucie Mobarek and Lynda Loghraibi to secure a place in the quarter-finals.
They are joined by Egypt, South Africa, and Tunisia in the semi-finals of the event after topping their respective groups, while they are awaiting the second-placed teams in the four groups to determine their opponents in the semi-finals.
Quadri Aruna claimed a silver medal in the men’s singles event after a 4-3 defeat in the final to Egypt’s Omar Assar in Accra, Ghana on Tuesday.
Offiong Edem had previously secured a bronze medal in the women’s singles event.
