Nigeria Customs seizes 150 cartons of bulletproof jackets valued at N1.68bn.

The Nigeria Customs Service made a significant interception of 150 cartons of bulletproof jackets valued at N1.687 billion in its Zone A Federal Operations Unit of Lagos.

The Customs Area Controller, Kola Oladeji, revealed this information during a press briefing. The contraband items were discovered along the Ijebuode-Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State and were seized in June.

Each carton contained 10 packs of bulletproof jackets, and the importation of such military wares by individuals is strictly prohibited under Schedule 4 of the Customs Common External Tariff.

Oladeji emphasized the need for an end-user certificate for the importation of controlled items and products into Nigeria, which is issued by the Office of the National Security Adviser.

He noted that the seized bulletproof jackets were a breach of security protocol as they lacked the necessary end-user certificate.

Oladeji stated that the Customs unit is actively pursuing leads based on credible intelligence to identify and apprehend the importers of the contraband items.
