Nigeria Beach Soccer League Season 5 Kicks Off in Anambra

Nnewi, Anambra StateThe Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) has commenced its Season 5, Round 2 competition at the Moonshine Arena in Nnewi, Anambra State.

This round serves as a qualifier for the Super 6 finals tournament scheduled later this year in Akwa Ibom State. Eight teams are competing, including defending champions Kebbi Fishers, Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors, Kebbi United BSC, Kada BSC, Nmanko Patigi BSC, Jigawa Gilden Star BSC, Ibom BSC, and Niger BSC.

This marks the second time Anambra State has hosted the league, a milestone made possible by Professor Victor Madubuko’s establishment of a beach soccer team and world-class facility in the state.

Alhaji Mahmud Hadejia, Coordinator and President of the NBSL, noted that the same eight teams that started the league in Kebbi are competing here, highlighting beach soccer as a growing sport in Nigeria, organized in partnership with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Hadejia emphasized the league’s importance for player development, as the NFF scouts players from the competition for national representation at continental and global tournaments.

In the opening match, host team Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors narrowly lost to defending champions Kebbi Fishers. After a 2-2 draw in regulation time, Kebbi Fishers won 6-5 in a penalty shootout.

The event drew numerous sports enthusiasts, including Prince Chukwudi Orizu, Vice Chairman of the Anambra State Beach Soccer Association, and former state sports commissioner Emmanuel Nsedo.
