Nigeria and Denmark have established a framework for monitoring climate action programs in real time. Both nations also emphasized the importance of prioritizing de-risking capital formation in global climate finance discussions, as Nigeria advocates for value chain localization in the Global South.
This agreement was finalized during a virtual meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, between Nigeria’s Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, and Denmark’s Special Climate Envoy, Mr. Tomas Anker Christensen.
Chief Ngelale outlined President Tinubu’s Green Industrial Vision and other key climate initiatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He also highlighted the need to decarbonize Nigeria’s extensive telecoms infrastructure, a task championed by Green ICT advocate, Mr. Diseye Isoun, who attended the meeting in Switzerland.
Ngelale pointed out significant opportunities for emissions reduction in the sector, which are expected to generate job opportunities in the near future. He praised Mr. Isoun for his efforts in ensuring that Nigeria’s climate frameworks are robust and achievable.
