A group of angry miners stormed MI Wushishi housing estate in Minna, Niger State capital on Tuesday.
The incident was said to have occurred when police attempted to chase away the miners who had been digging for gold within the residential area.
It was gathered that the community had earlier reported to the police how the miners infiltrated their homes.
According to Channels Television, the miners, who had vowed to return with reinforcement, invaded the community in large numbers, and sacked the community, destroying vehicles and buildings, as residents of the estate fled their homes in fear of further attacks.
The situation is currently tense, with many calling for increased security measures to protect the residents and prevent further violence.
Meanwhile, the state chairman of the Miners Association of Nigeria, Yusuf Mami, said the attackers were not miners and no member of the association was reported to have taken part in the destruction.
He, however, admitted that some youths within the community dig up soil randomly in search of gold and subsequently become violent.
