NGF Condoles Niger Govt Over Boat Tragedy

Abuja, NigeriaThe Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed deep sorrow over the recent boat mishap in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, which reportedly claimed about 60 lives.

In a statement issued by its Chairman and Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Forum commiserated with the government and people of Niger State and lauded Governor Umar Bago for his prompt rescue efforts.

The NGF extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished the survivors a speedy recovery.

Raising concerns over the recurring incidents of boat accidents, the Forum cited overcrowding, use of dilapidated vessels, and night journeys as major causes.

It emphasized that such tragedies are preventable if safety rules are enforced and human lives prioritized.

The NGF called for strict compliance with life jacket regulations, noting that both federal and state authorities have supplied large quantities to improve waterway safety.
