News: Tinubu Declares State of Emergency in Rivers State

RiversPresident Bola Tinubu has declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing escalating political instability and security concerns.

In a nationwide address on Tuesday, Tinubu announced the immediate suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all members of the state House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.

The president stated that recent reports indicate a surge in pipeline vandalism by militants, with no decisive action taken by the state government to address the situation. He emphasized that, as a responsible leader, he could not stand by while governance and security deteriorate in the oil-rich state.

Invoking Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), Tinubu justified the emergency declaration as necessary to restore law, order, and good governance in Rivers State.
