Professor Abdullahi Ribadu has officially assumed office as the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), with a commitment to reform and enhance the Commission’s service delivery.
Speaking during the handover ceremony held in Abuja, Professor Ribadu emphasized his vision to improve productivity within the NUC, prioritizing staff development through training and improved welfare programs.
Addressing funding challenges in Nigeria’s university system, Ribadu outlined his plan to strengthen collaborations with international organizations and donor agencies. He proposed creating a centralized platform to manage and track external funding, ensuring its effective allocation and utilization.
“We will foster robust partnerships with global organizations and donor agencies while digitizing the Commission’s operations to enhance transparency, accessibility, and efficiency,” Ribadu said.
The new Executive Secretary also highlighted the need for a comprehensive needs assessment to guide the equitable distribution of resources across Nigerian universities.
Outgoing Acting Executive Secretary, Mr. Chris Maiyaki, described Professor Ribadu’s appointment as timely, noting the urgent need for innovative leadership in addressing the challenges facing the Nigerian University System. Maiyaki urged staff members to extend full support to the incoming Executive Secretary to ensure the successful implementation of his agenda.
Professor Ribadu’s tenure is expected to bring transformative leadership aimed at driving reform, improving governance, and ensuring sustainable growth in Nigeria’s higher education sector.
