Abuja, Nigeria: The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sealed 21 facilities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) over violations of national environmental regulations.
The affected sites include several major construction and real estate projects that reportedly failed to conduct the mandatory Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), in breach of the National Environmental Regulations of 2011.
NESREA Director General, Professor Innocent Barikor, said the enforcement followed multiple public complaints about the environmental harm caused by the ongoing developments.
“The construction industry continues to disregard the National Environmental (Construction Sector) Regulations 2011 and the Environmental Impact Assessment Act,” Barikor stated. “Despite issuing compliance concern notices after thorough investigations, many of these facilities failed to respond appropriately, leaving us no choice but to take action.”
Among the sealed sites are White Avenue Real Estate in Lugbe, multiple China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) projects, Mo Mouna Construction in Katampe, Belmont Court in Idu, and MAB Global Estate.
Other affected entities include Anarock Global Services Limited, Cosgrove’s shopping mall and estate projects, Constrix in Idu, Tayyib Homes, and several others operating in Kukwaba, Wuse II, and the Central Business District.
