The anticipated 2024 Staff Promotion Examination by the National Examinations Council (NECO) has been indefinitely deferred, eliciting widespread reactions. Initially slated for the 14th and 15th of February 2024 in Minna, Niger State, the examination faced dissent from staff members mandated to participate.
NECO had instructed eligible staff to convene at its headquarters from January 13 to January 15, 2024.
However, dissent emerged among the staff, citing concerns about the prevailing insecurity across the nation. In response, Azeez Sani, the Acting Director of the Directorate of Information and Digital Communication, issued a statement on Friday.
The postponement aligns with the Committee on Basic Examination Bodies of the House of Representatives’ directive. A meeting with NECO’s Registrar/CE, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, is scheduled for Monday, 19th February 2024. Consequently, all NECO staff awaiting promotion in 2024 are advised that the exercise has been suspended indefinitely.
