NECO Confirms Payment Completion for All 72,138 Examiners

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced that it has fully paid allowances to all 72,138 examiners engaged as ad-hoc staff for the 2024 School-based Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

In a statement issued by NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, the council clarified that payments began on October 4, 2024, and were conducted on a bank-by-bank basis to simplify reconciliation and streamline the process. “This approach was necessary to avoid payment complications. According to our payment plan, NECO has finalized all examiner payments as of Wednesday, November 13, 2024,” Sani stated.

Sani noted that some examiners had initially provided incorrect bank details, which delayed their payments. However, the council worked closely with the affected individuals to update and verify this information, completing the reconciliation process for all 24 banks used in the transactions.

NECO addressed recent speculation on social media claiming the council deliberately withheld payments to examiners. NECO categorically denied these allegations, calling them “incorrect and false.” The statement reaffirmed the council’s commitment to ensuring prompt payments and maintaining transparency in its operations.

In response to rumors, NECO advised those involved in its activities to seek clarification directly from the council before resorting to public platforms. The council stressed that it remains open to addressing any concerns from its personnel, encouraging proactive communication to avoid misinformation.
