NDLEA Seizes 82.5kg of Illicit Drugs in Ebonyi

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ebonyi State has confiscated 82.5 kilograms of narcotics over the past five months.

Peter Ogar, the State Commander of the NDLEA, made this announcement during the commemoration of this year’s International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Abakaliki.

Ogar reported that the Command had arrested 139 suspects for various drug-related offenses. Of these, thirteen have been convicted, while other cases are pending in the Federal High Court in Abakaliki.

Mrs. Mary Maudline Nwifuru, the wife of the State Governor, attended the event and praised the NDLEA for its efforts. She called for a partnership between her Berwo Foundation and the Agency to combat drug abuse in communities.

The event included awareness campaigns on the effects of drug abuse among youth, with a particular focus on crystal meth, locally known as Nkpurumiri.
