NDLEA Foils Multiple Drug Trafficking Operations Nationwide

Lagos, NigeriaThe National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted various consignments of hard drugs across several states, arresting multiple suspects and preventing large-scale distribution of narcotics in the country.

In Lagos, NDLEA operatives arrested a widow and mother of one, identified as Mrs. Ezewuike, who attempted to smuggle cocaine concealed in a fake pregnancy belly. The suspect, who runs a fashion business in Ago Palace Way, Okota, was apprehended at a bus terminal in Jibowu, Yaba, on Friday, August 22, 2025. A search of her residence led to the recovery of 200 grams of a cutting agent used in producing a cocaine variant. Ezewuike confessed that she inherited the drug trade from her late husband, though she had operated a fashion outfit for 20 years.

In a related operation, NDLEA officers of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) intercepted 90 parcels of Loud, a strong strain of cannabis weighing 48.6kg. The drugs, imported from the United States, were cleverly concealed in cartons of kitchen sinks and discovered at a courier company in Lagos on Tuesday, August 19.

Elsewhere, in Adamawa State, operatives raided the home of a suspected dealer, Idris Garba, who fled by scaling a fence. However, his associate, 55-year-old Boniface Nnaji, was apprehended at Rumde Baru, Yola South. From their operation, officers recovered a Toyota Thundra jeep and a Toyota Yaris loaded with 354,480 pills of different strengths of Tramadol.

In Kogi State, NDLEA intercepted Neche Okonkwo at Idah waterside on Wednesday, August 20, as he attempted to move 5,000 Tramadol capsules, 400 ampoules of Pentazocine injection, and 200 ampoules of Diazepam from Onitsha across the River Niger into Lokoja.

Similarly, in Kano, officers arrested two suspects—Buhari Ibrahim, 25, and Mansur Musa, 24—with 5,850 capsules of pregabalin at Zangon Dakata Ungogo on Tuesday, August 19. On the same day, 452,070 opioid pills were recovered from the home of a suspect, Rabilu Mukhtar, who remains at large. Another suspect, Buhari Idris, 35, was arrested with 140 litres of codeine syrup. Additionally, on Saturday, August 23, 7,000 Tramadol capsules were seized from 29-year-old Adamu Yusuf along Zaria-Kano Road.

The NDLEA reaffirmed its resolve to curb drug trafficking and protect Nigerians from the dangers of illicit substances.
