Anambra, Nigeria — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 75-year-old Uchelue Ikechukwu alongside five others during operations targeting illicit drug trafficking in Anambra State.
Ikechukwu was caught in Umudioka, Dunukofia Local Government Area, with 26.7 kilograms of skunk cannabis on August 28, 2025. Other suspects, including Eneh Makuo, Emmanuel Chiemeli, Uwakwe Matthew, Chukwujekwu Ehirim, Ifeanyichukwu Olisa, and Odoh Chukwuma, were apprehended with opioids and skunk in Nkwelle and Amichi areas of Anambra.
In Taraba State, NDLEA operatives supported by the Nigerian Army and Forest Security Service destroyed a 71.5-hectare cannabis farm in Mayodoga Forest, Sardauna Local Government Area, seizing 178,750 kilograms of skunk and arresting 30-year-old Alfa Andrew, who was found with a Dane gun.
At the Abuja/Kaduna tollgate in Kaduna, operatives intercepted 104,900 capsules of tramadol hidden in a fuel tanker destined for insurgents in Borno State and arrested driver Hassan Buba. Forty-five-year-old Kabir Sulaiman was also caught with 34.15 kilograms of skunk at Gwargwaje-Zaria checkpoint.
In Maiduguri, Borno State, 33-year-old Uchenna Umeh, a major opioid supplier, was arrested following intelligence operations shortly after receiving his consignment from Onitsha, Anambra. Authorities recovered 30,640 tramadol pills, 7,940 rohypnol tablets, and ₦7,999,200 in cash.
Other arrests included Abubakar Dauda, 36, with 79,040 pills of tramadol and diazepam in Nasarawa, and Babangida Tungura, 47, caught in Lafia with tramadol, rohypnol, and codeine cough syrup.
An operation in Adamawa saw Mohammed Ali, 23, arrested for attempting to transport 15,000 tramadol capsules concealed in animal feed sacks.
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa commended the nationwide efforts, particularly in Anambra, Taraba, Kaduna, and Borno states, while continuing drug abuse sensitization campaigns across Nigeria.
