National Assembly Pledges Support for Tinubu’s Reforms

Abuja, Nigeria  —  The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, has reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly to advancing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, emphasizing their role in boosting national revenue.

Speaking while receiving the leadership of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on a courtesy visit to his office, Dr. Abbas highlighted the pro-business stance of the 10th House of Representatives. He pointed to the House’s Legislative Agenda as a blueprint for fostering private sector growth and driving national development.

“Our policy document outlines strategic interventions to position the private sector as the main engine of economic progress,” Dr. Abbas stated. “This includes legislative reforms to enhance the ease of doing business, support infrastructural development, drive economic diversification, promote innovation and technology, and strengthen institutions that facilitate private sector collaboration.”

He further announced that the House would engage the LCCI annually to address economic challenges requiring legislative intervention.

In response, LCCI President, Mr. Gabriel Idahosa, reiterated the Chamber’s commitment to partnering with the National Assembly to strengthen Nigeria’s economy.

Highlighting LCCI’s impact since its establishment in 1888, Mr. Idahosa noted that its over 4,000-member institutions contribute approximately 60% of Nigeria’s total production output. He also called for legislative support in improving the business environment, outlining specific areas where policy reforms could drive greater economic growth.

The meeting underscored a shared vision between the legislature and private sector stakeholders, reinforcing collaborative efforts to propel Nigeria’s economic transformation.
