The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested 107 suspected kidnappers between January and December 2024, according to the State Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel.
Speaking in Lafia during an interview with Radio Nigeria, DSP Nansel detailed the command’s efforts to address security concerns ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations. He revealed that alongside the 107 suspected kidnappers, 173 armed robbery suspects were also apprehended. Additionally, 27 kidnap victims were rescued, while 27 vehicles and motorcycles were recovered during the year.
To ensure a peaceful yuletide, the command has outlined an operation plan that includes deploying 4,000 police officers to strategic locations such as worship centers, recreation areas, and other public places. Officers from other security agencies will complement the effort to guarantee public safety during the festive season.
DSP Nansel urged residents to remain security-conscious, advising families to leave at least one member at home while others participate in festivities.
Nasarawa State continues to grapple with security challenges, including kidnappings, armed robberies, and other violent crimes. Victims over the year have included government officials, politicians’ spouses, students, and traders. The police remain committed to tackling these issues and safeguarding residents.
