A joint security task force has arrested a private miner and sealed off two mining sites in Kure, Amba community, Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Yakubu Kwanta, disclosed this during a raid on the illegal mining site in the area.
According to Mr. Kwanta, the arrest followed credible intelligence on unauthorized mining activities in the community. He noted that Governor Abdullahi Sule had ordered the immediate closure of the site to verify the authenticity of the operators’ documents.
He further assured residents of the state government’s commitment to eradicating illegal mining activities to safeguard lives and protect public resources.
The operation was executed by a combined team of the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
