Abuja, Nigeria — The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has issued a new summons for Nigerian singer Speed Darlington, directing him to appear at its office on Monday, June 2, after failing to honour an earlier invitation.
The agency had initially called on the artist to report on May 30, following a viral video in which he appeared to suggest he engaged in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl — a statement that sparked widespread concern and public outrage.
In an official statement released on. Friday, NAPTIP disclosed that Speed Darlington refused the first invitation, claiming he was given insufficient notice and had prior commitments that prevented his attendance.
Rejecting the excuse, NAPTIP stated that it would not adjust its procedures to suit the artist’s schedule. The agency has now issued a firm directive for him to present himself on June 2, stressing that failure to comply will not be taken lightly.
Reaffirming its stance, NAPTIP emphasized its zero-tolerance policy towards child abuse and exploitation and assured the public that all allegations involving minors would be thoroughly investigated, regardless of the status of those involved.
