Nani Announces Retirement from World Football

Former Manchester United and Portugal winger, Nani, has officially retired from professional football at the age of 38.

The veteran player, who recently featured for Portuguese side Estrela Amadora, played his final match on November 1 at Sporting Lisbon, the club where his career began.

Announcing his retirement on social media, Nani said, “The time has come to say goodbye. It’s been an amazing journey, and I’m grateful to everyone who supported me through the highs and lows over the past 20 years. It’s time to focus on new goals and dreams.”

Nani joined Manchester United in 2007 from Sporting Lisbon for £21 million, making 230 appearances and scoring 41 goals during his eight-year stint. He won the UEFA Champions League in his debut season, alongside four Premier League titles and two League Cups.

The 2010-11 season marked the peak of his United career, as he was named the club’s players’ player of the year and included in the PFA Team of the Year, leading the league with 14 assists.

After leaving United, Nani’s career took him to clubs like Fenerbahce, Valencia, Lazio, Orlando City, Melbourne Victory, and Adana Demirspor before his final stint at Estrela Amadora.

On the international stage, Nani earned 112 caps for Portugal, scoring 24 goals and playing a key role in the team’s triumph at Euro 2016.

Nani’s departure marks the end of an illustrious career spanning more than two decades, filled with memorable achievements and moments of brilliance.
