Ekiti Airport – The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has begun the calibration of landing systems at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport, marking a critical step toward the commencement of commercial flight operations. This development follows the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority’s (NCAA) approval for non-scheduled flight operations at the airport for a six-month period.
The calibration aircraft carrying NAMA officials arrived at the airport runway at 4:13 PM on Friday, initiating the calibration exercise immediately. In the aviation sector, calibration ensures air navigation safety by conducting inspections, calibrating equipment, and monitoring airspace systems. It is essential for confirming that the facility complies with global standards for safe and efficient operations.
Prominent state officials, including AVM Sunday Makinde (Rtd), Technical Adviser to the Governor on Airport Project, and other commissioners and advisers, were present to welcome the NAMA team. During a briefing, AVM Makinde emphasized the importance of the calibration exercise in securing final approval for commercial operations. He stated that the exercise evaluates and fine-tunes the airport’s navigational aids, including communication radios and instrument landing systems.

Makinde also assured the public that the airport is fully equipped to accommodate any aircraft type, underscoring its readiness for commercial use.
Commissioner for Information, Chief Taiwo Olatubosun, highlighted the airport’s readiness following inspections and certifications by regulatory bodies. He described the airport’s completion as a milestone for Ekiti State, promising it would stimulate investment, tourism, and economic growth while simplifying life for residents.
This development underscores Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s dedication to transforming Ekiti into an economic and connectivity hub, fostering local and international partnerships. The NAMA team is scheduled to conclude its activities on Saturday, further accelerating the airport’s operational readiness.
