Following a court order, MultiChoice has revised its subscription rates for DStv and GOtv services in Nigeria. This move comes after the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal in Abuja mandated the company to halt its planned price increases.
MultiChoice had initially intended to challenge the tribunal’s ruling, citing a significant decline in its Nigerian subscriber base, resulting in the loss of over a million subscribers. However, the company has now reflected the adjusted prices on its platforms as of Sunday, June 16, 2024.
As per the new adjustments, DStv Premium subscribers will now pay N29,500 instead of the proposed N37,000. The Compact+ package will cost N19,800, down from the planned N25,000. Subscribers to the Compact Bouquet will continue to pay the previous rate of N12,500 rather than the new rate of N15,700. Confam package subscribers will pay the old rate of N7,400, as opposed to the increased N9,300.
For the Yanga package, subscribers will pay the former rate of N4,200 instead of the new N5,100. The Padi package will remain at N2,950, avoiding the planned increase to N3,600.
Similarly, GOtv subscribers will benefit from the readjusted prices. GOtv Super+ package subscribers will pay N12,500 instead of N15,700. GOtv Super users will pay N7,600, down from N9,600. GOtv Max subscribers will be charged N5,700; GOtv Joli, N3,950; and GOtv Jinja, N2,700.
These changes come as MultiChoice aims to comply with regulatory directives while addressing the concerns of its subscriber base.
