Nigeria’s telecommunications giant, MTN has announced that shops and service centers are closed nationwide in Nigeria on Tuesday amid outrage by customers over Simple Identification Module disconnection.
The MTN disclosed this in a notice on its official X account on Tuesday.
The company urged customers to explore its digital channels available 24 hours.
The closure comes on the heels of an outrage by some of its subscribers after the network provider barred their lines on Sunday.
According to a viral video on social media Monday, a mob is seen destroying a barricade fence just outside the MTN office.
The clip showed a large crowd of angry subscribers vandalizing the telecommunications company’s office in the FESTAC Town area of Lagos State in response to the network blocking subscribers over discrepancies in their National Identification Number and SIM registration.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Communications Commission on Monday directed all Mobile Network Operators to reactivate disconnected telecoms users.
MNOs including MTN have started implementing NCC’s directive by reactivating affected customers.
