Lagos, Nigeria — MTN Nigeria has significantly raised its Pulse call bundle rates, following regulatory approval for industry-wide tariff adjustments.
The telecom giant announced the increase in a message to Pulse subscribers, confirming a sharp rise in call charges from N7.8 per minute (13 kobo per second) to N13.8 per minute (23 kobo per second) and a 76.92 per cent surge.
Additionally, MTN has adjusted SMS charges from N4 to N6 and is implementing substantial hikes across its data bundles, with price changes rolling out in phases.
The adjustments follow the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)’s recent approval of a 50 per cent tariff increase across the telecom industry, which is the first such revision in a decade.
Key data plan revisions include:
– 1.8GB monthly plan now at N1,500 (previously 1.5GB for N1,000)
– 20GB plan increased to N7,500 (up from N5,500)
– 15GB plan now N6,500 (previously N4,500)
– 90-day 1.5TB plan now N240,000 (up from N150,000)
– 600GB 90-day plan now N120,000 (previously N75,000)
Larger data bundles for two to three-month durations have also been adjusted, with 100GB previously at N20,000 now reduced to 90GB for N25,000, while 160GB at N30,000 has been cut to 150GB for N40,000.
While other telecom operators have yet to implement similar adjustments, industry analysts predict that competitors will soon follow suit.
Telecom firms justify the hike as a necessary step to sustain infrastructure investments and technological advancements, ensuring continued service efficiency for subscribers.
MTN reassured customers that the adjustments are part of broader industry trends aimed at maintaining quality service delivery amid rising operational costs.
