Mohbad Death: Protest erupts in Lagos despite govt’s assurances

A Cross-section of Lagos Youths on Wednesday took to the streets of Lagos to protest the death of late afrobeat star Mohbad.

Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Imole Aloba popularly known as Mohbad died last week Tuesday in questionable circumstances and was buried the next day in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, sparking outrage amongst his fans.

Addressing the protesters at the Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Idris Aregbe assured youths that justice will prevail in the investigation into the death of Mohbad.

Mr Aregbe said there was no need for protest as the state government had taken steps to ensure justice would be done in the matter.

“It shouldn’t be about protest because whatever we are asking for, Mr. Governor and the state government is on it. And we are doing everything possible to make sure we get it right on this issue. We all love Mohbad. Lagos mourns and it is a big loss for Lagos, and we will do everything possible to make sure the right thing is done and at the right time,” assured Aregbe.

The Lagos State government had on Tuesday sent a delegation let by the Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat to visit the family of the late music star and also promised to take care of the his child.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also invited the Department of State Services (DSS) to also join in the investigation to unravel the cause of Mohbad’s death.
