Miyetti Allah Advocates for Creation of Livestock Ministry

Baba Othman Ngelzarma, National President of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), has called on the federal government to establish a Ministry of Livestock. He believes this move would generate additional revenue and boost the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Ngelzarma made this appeal during the election of the new leadership for the Bauchi State Chapter of MACBAN. He emphasized that the creation of a dedicated ministry would effectively address various issues plaguing the livestock sector.

Nigeria has the largest cattle population in West Africa, and Ngelzarma argued that fully harnessing this resource could significantly benefit the economy. He noted that the recent push for the establishment of ranches for cattle breeders stems from the long-term neglect of the livestock sector and urged for a strategic reevaluation.

He further stated that while the creation of ranches is a step in the right direction, it is only one facet of the broader livestock industry. It alone cannot solve the numerous challenges, including the persistent herder-farmer clashes.

In related news, the Bauchi State Chapter of MACBAN has elected Muhammad Kabir as its new Chairman for the next four years. Kabir pledged to fulfill his mandate, ensure the inclusion of all productive Fulani members, and collaborate with security agencies to address issues within the community.
