The Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande Wisdom, has called on Nigerian youths to channel their talents and energy constructively to contribute to national development. He delivered this message during the 6th National Discourse & 2024 Conference in Abuja, organized by the Association of Muslim Men in Business and the Professions, also known as “The Companions.”
Mr. Wisdom emphasized the critical role of youth in nation-building, urging them to adopt a cosmopolitan mindset characterized by resilience, dedication, and patriotism. He affirmed President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to supporting Nigerian youths in achieving their potential and contributing to national growth.
Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, commended the event organizers for providing a platform for discussing ideas that enhance national values and development. He praised the theme of the conference, “Between Patriotism & Self-Preservation,” as timely and reaffirmed the 10th National Assembly’s commitment to enacting laws that foster a supportive environment for youth.
Chairperson of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NiDCom), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, represented by Mallam Abdulrahman Terab, expressed concern over the rising trend of the “Japa syndrome” among Nigerian youths. She highlighted the significant increase in emigration, especially among younger individuals.
National Amir of The Companions, Mr. Kamil Olalekan, stressed the importance of public office holders setting an example in fostering national patriotism. He advocated for the prioritization of Made-in-Nigeria goods and services to enhance youth employment and empowerment.
The conference concluded with the presentation of Awards of Excellence to several dignitaries, including Senator Barau Jibrin, in recognition of their contributions to national development.
