Abuja, Nigeria — The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has emphasized that President Bola Tinubu is not under the control of any cabal, but instead operates independently while remaining receptive to diverse perspectives.
Idris made this declaration on Thursday in Abuja at the National Summit of the All Progressives Congress (APC), themed “Renewed Hope Agenda: The Journey So Far.”
“You need to study the president very well. You can have your voice; you can say what you want to say; he will listen to you, but his decision is ultimately his own,” the Minister said, noting that President Tinubu consistently makes informed decisions rooted in the national interest.
Highlighting the administration’s achievements, Idris stated that Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda has set Nigeria on a transformative path by confronting longstanding economic and infrastructural challenges head-on. He pointed to the removal of petrol and foreign exchange subsidies as among the president’s earliest and boldest actions, which have curbed significant financial losses and laid the groundwork for sustainable development.
“These decisions may be tough in the short term, but they are designed to deliver long-term benefits,” Idris said.
He detailed notable reforms and investments across multiple sectors, including:
Infrastructure Development: The launch of four major highway projects—the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, Calabar-Abuja Superhighway, and Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe Highway—spanning over 2,600km and designed to boost regional connectivity.
Railway Modernisation: The Kano-Kaduna Standard Gauge Railway, a critical segment of the Lagos-Kano corridor, is being prioritized to enhance regional integration and economic mobility.
Housing: The Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Projects aim to reduce the national housing deficit, stimulate job creation, and revitalize urban development.
Digital Economy: Deployment of 90,000km of fiber optic cable to expand broadband access, enabling smart governance and digital innovation across sectors.
Education & Credit Access: Over 300,000 students are now benefitting from the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), while workers can access a Consumer Credit Scheme for essential goods.
On the security front, Idris reported significant progress, including the neutralization and arrest of thousands of criminals and the rescue of nearly 10,000 hostages, along with major investments in the military and navy’s capabilities.
He also lauded the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development and Regional Development Commissions, describing them as strategic steps toward modernizing agriculture and fostering inclusive, zonal growth.
At the heart of the Renewed Hope Agenda, Idris said, is the ordinary Nigerian: “Whether it’s through reduced transportation costs via CNG, access to education, or business financing, the policies are aimed at improving everyday lives.”
The Minister also highlighted the recently enacted Renewed Hope Nigeria First Policy, which prioritizes the use of Nigerian goods, services, and expertise in government spending—a move he described as “a bold step toward economic self-reliance and industrial revitalization.”
Concluding his remarks, Idris commended President Tinubu’s leadership, describing his approach as bold, inclusive, and deeply nationalistic, laying the foundation for what he called Nigeria’s “Economic Renaissance.
