Minister Sends 600 Bags of Grains to Mokwa Flood Victims

Niger state,Nigeria:The Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, has donated 600 bags of grains to victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.

The donation, comprising 300 bags of 50kg rice, 150 bags of maize, and 150 bags of millet, was announced during a sympathy visit to the Niger State Government in Minna. The Minister was represented by the Director-General of the Niger State-Babanna Border Development Agency, Mohammed Abdullahi.

Senator Abdullahi stated that the intervention was aimed at providing immediate relief to families affected by the flood and to support ongoing recovery efforts.

In a related development, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, also visited Niger State to commiserate with the victims. During his visit, Obi stressed the importance of sustainable land management and urban planning as long-term solutions to recurring flood disasters across the country.

“With proper land use and urban planning, we can significantly reduce the impact of flooding and avoid the annual loss of lives and property,” Obi said.

He also announced a personal donation of ₦20 million to assist the affected communities.

Responding on behalf of the state government, Niger State Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba expressed gratitude for the support, assuring that all donations would be equitably distributed to the victims.
