Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has launched an investigation into allegations of bribery and corruption within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
In a firm statement, the Minister condemned the alleged misconduct, emphasizing that corruption, indiscipline, and unprofessional behavior will not be tolerated under his watch. He assured that offenders will face severe consequences within the paramilitary services overseen by the Ministry.
To lead the investigation, Tunji-Ojo has appointed a special task force headed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, instructing the team to conduct a thorough, transparent, and unbiased probe. A detailed report is expected, and strict disciplinary measures will be implemented against any personnel found guilty.
The investigation follows a bribery allegation made by Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, in a viral audio recording. In the recording, Bobrisky claimed to have paid N15 million in bribes to officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to drop money laundering charges against him. Bobrisky was released from prison on August 5 after serving six months in detention.
