Minister Alake Vows to Elevate Nigeria’s Solid Minerals Sector to Global Prominence

Dr. Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, has pledged unwavering commitment to transforming Nigeria into the world’s premier destination for solid minerals, urging heightened dedication from all stakeholders, particularly ministry staff.

During the 2024 Ministerial Step-down Retreat convened in Abuja, Dr. Alake stressed the imperative of diligence among ministry personnel to propel the sector’s advancement.

He described the retreat as a pivotal platform for brainstorming and crafting strategies to translate the ministry’s mandates into tangible outcomes.

While commending staff for their contributions to the ministry’s objectives, Dr. Alake urged them to aspire for greater heights, aiming to position Nigeria’s solid mineral sector as a continental and global attraction.

Addressing performance concerns, Dr. Alake reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s stance on merit-based ministerial appointments, warning of consequences for those failing to uphold due diligence.

He reiterated his resolve to enforce efficiency within the ministry, emphasizing that negligence would result in disciplinary measures.

Reflecting on the ministry’s Seven-Point Agenda endorsed by the Office of the Government of the Federation and the Federal Executive Council (FEC), Dr. Alake underscored its strategic significance.

He highlighted the retreat’s potential for fruitful deliberations, particularly centered on the ministry’s agenda and presidential priorities, emphasizing the importance of knowledge sharing and innovative approaches to achieve eighteen deliverables aligned with eight presidential priorities.

The minister articulated intentions to boost local content through value addition, stimulate job creation, attract foreign direct investment, support small and medium-sized enterprises, and foster sustainable economic growth.
