Organised Labour has once more rejected the Federal Government’s proposal of a N60,000 minimum wage.
Comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Organised Labour has turned down the latest offer of N60,000 as the new minimum wage.
In a recent development, Organised Labour reduced its demand from N497,000 to N494,000.
Previously, the government had suggested N48,000 and N54,000, both of which were also rejected by Organised Labour.
Initially, Organised Labour demanded N615,000 as the new minimum wage, later lowering their request to N497,000 last week, and further to N494,000 on Tuesday.
The Tripartite Committee has yet to reach an agreement on a new minimum wage, with only three days remaining before the May 31 deadline set by the labour unions for the government to conclude negotiations.
Organised Labour has set a May 31, 2024, ultimatum for the federal government to meet its demands on the National Minimum Wage and the reversal of the electricity tariff hike.
