Activist Deji Adeyanju has applauded the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, for employing a “good strategy” in their push for a new minimum wage.
Recall that organised labour embarked on an indefinite strike on Monday to protest the low wages for workers in the country.
In response to the current high cost of living in the country, organised labour demanded N494,000 as the new minimum wage as against the N30,000 workers are earning, but the Nigerian Government offered N60,000.
After Monday’s meeting between government representatives and organised labour, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, George Akume, disclosed that the Federal Government is committed to paying a minimum wage higher than N60,000.
The meeting between the representatives of the Nigerian Government and the organised labour resulted in the suspension of the industrial action on Tuesday.
Posting on X, Adeyanju wrote: “Nigerian workers to NLC & TUC. Well played organised Labour. Good strategy on the minimum wage issue.
“Nigerians are behind you, please don’t fold or disappoint them this time. Aluta continua.”
