Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, has revealed that ex-Chelsea defender, Gustavo Poyet, has asked him about the vacant Super Eagles coaching role.
The Nigerian national team is still without a permanent coach since Finidi George’s departure.
In the interim, Nigeria Football Federation’s Technical Director, Augustine Eguavoen, took charge of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
However, it appears Poyet is keen on managing the three-time African champions.
Mikel Obi, speaking on his Obionepodcast, said: “He asked me, ‘What’s it like managing the Nigeria national team?’ I gave him my honest opinion.
“Managing Nigeria’s national team is tough. You need to be very patient because things won’t move as quickly as you might hope. Patience is crucial, but progress does happen.”
