Mbah Launches Distribution of N4.6 Billion in Agricultural Inputs and MSME Grants

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has initiated the distribution of agricultural inputs and grants totaling over N4.6 billion to farmers, communities, and IT startups in the state as part of his food security, agro-industrialization, and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) development agenda.

The distribution was launched at Okpara Square, Enugu, with the aim of supporting small-scale entrepreneurs and ensuring sustainable economic growth by providing essential resources.

The initiative includes distributing one bag of fertilizer to 12,000 small-holder farmers, as well as providing 51 power tillers valued at N2 million each to farmers in various farming clusters across Enugu State. Additionally, agricultural inputs such as rice and bean seedlings, cassava stems, organic fertilizers, and herbicides will be distributed to 1,251 beneficiaries from across the 17 local government areas.

Governor Mbah highlighted the importance of revamping rural roads to improve connectivity between farming clusters and prevent isolation of rural units. The MSMEs support program will allocate N1 billion, with 80% of the sum directed towards women-owned enterprises. Various financial support schemes are being implemented, including disbursements to nano-enterprises, tech startups, and solar equipment beneficiaries.

In addition to promoting agriculture and entrepreneurship, the state government is also focusing on addressing open defecation and enhancing water provision and sanitation across 135 communities with an investment of N15 million. The Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialization, Patrick Ubru, urged beneficiaries to utilize the resources effectively to create jobs, revolutionize the agricultural sector, and boost the state’s economy.

The Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in Enugu State, Romanus Eze, expressed gratitude for the government’s support and assured Governor Mbah of the commitment of farmers and beneficiaries to deliver concrete results.
