London, England — Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has officially named Robert Sanchez as the starting goalkeeper for the highly anticipated Premier League encounter against Arsenal this weekend.
Maresca made this announcement during a press briefing published on Chelsea’s official website, reaffirming his confidence in Sanchez as the Blues aim for a crucial result at the Emirates Stadium.
Sanchez, who featured in Chelsea’s 1-0 league victory over Leicester City last weekend, is set to reclaim his position after Filip Jorgensen was handed the gloves in Thursday’s UEFA Conference League fixture against Copenhagen. Jorgensen kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 triumph at Stamford Bridge, helping Chelsea secure a 3-1 aggregate win and advance to the quarterfinals of the competition.
Despite this, Maresca has opted for continuity in the league, confirming Sanchez’s return for the London derby.
“Yes, Robert will start against Arsenal,” Maresca stated. “I’ve always said we are happy with both goalkeepers, but flexibility is key in football. While consistency is important, adapting to different circumstances is equally crucial. That applies not only to tactics but also to player selection.”
Chelsea travel to North London trailing Arsenal by six points, with the Gunners currently occupying second place in the league standings. A victory at the Emirates would see Chelsea cut the gap to just three points, strengthening their push for a top-four finish.
Asked about Chelsea’s chances of overtaking Arsenal before the season ends, Maresca remained focused on immediate objectives.
“At this moment, our two main goals are securing a Champions League spot and winning the Conference League,”* he explained. “Chelsea is a club accustomed to competing for trophies, and we want to give our fans that feeling again. If we can achieve both objectives, it will be a huge step forward for us.”
With their European campaign still alive and domestic ambitions in sight, Chelsea will be eager to deliver a statement performance against their London rivals on Sunday.
