Manchester United Shares Spoils with Everton, Clinches Premier League Summer Series Title

Atlanta, United StatesManchester United battled Everton to a 2-2 draw in the final match of the Premier League Summer Series on Sunday, securing the top spot in the pre-season US tour tournament.

The Red Devils wrapped up the round-robin series with seven points, following earlier victories over West Ham (2-1) and Bournemouth (4-1). The result in Atlanta was enough to crown United champions of the friendly competition.

Bruno Fernandes led the charge, converting a 19th-minute penalty after being fouled in the box and later assisting Mason Mount’s 69th-minute goal to temporarily restore United’s lead. Everton, however, equalised six minutes later when a deflected own goal off Ayden Heaven leveled the scoreline.

Speaking after the match, Fernandes told Sky Sports that the club is undergoing steady improvement. He emphasized the need for increased competition within the squad, expressing hope for further reinforcements before the new season kicks off.

“The club is trying to do its best,” he said. “We need more quality, more competition to push everyone.”

Reflecting on last season’s 15th-place league finish—United’s lowest since the 1973–74 campaign—Fernandes acknowledged the frustration of fans and pledged to deliver better performances this season. “We appreciate the fans’ efforts. Now it’s up to us to repay that on the pitch.”

Everton’s goals came from Iliman Ndiaye, who converted in the 40th minute, and a 75th-minute deflected own goal off Diallo’s backpass. Manager Ruben Amorim also handed a debut start to Bryan Mbeumo, the new signing from Brentford.

In an earlier match, West Ham United defeated Bournemouth 2-0 thanks to goals from Niclas Fullkrug and Jarrod Bowen, both assisted by Senegalese newcomer El Hadji Malick Diouf.

Bowen hailed Diouf’s immediate impact, praising his vision and character. “He’s only just arrived, but it feels like he’s been with us for years,” Bowen said. “He’s humble, talented, and already crucial to the squad.”

The Premier League Summer Series concludes as clubs gear up for the upcoming season, with Manchester United aiming to return to its former winning culture.
