Nasiru Buba, who accused Jigawa’s Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwal Danladi Sankara, of an illicit affair with his wife, has rejected the Kano Upper Shari’a Court’s ruling, which cleared the commissioner of wrongdoing.
Presiding Judge Ibrahim Sarki Yola dismissed the case due to insufficient evidence, explaining that a police investigation found no proof to substantiate the allegations. “The report from the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police concluded there was no evidence of an illicit relationship between Sankara and Tasleem Baba Nabegu,” the judge stated. He also noted the absence of Buba and his legal team during the proceedings as a factor in the decision.
Buba, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling, insisting he provided substantial evidence to support his claims. Speaking to journalists, he said, “I submitted 854 photographs, over 100 video clips, more than 200 WhatsApp voice notes, and 500 hours of call recordings. While the court may have dismissed the case, I leave the ultimate judgment to Allah.”
His legal counsel, Rabi’u Sidi, also raised concerns about the court process, alleging that they were not informed about the session. “We are a critical party to this case, yet we received no communication about the proceedings. We only heard about the ruling through the news,” he said, adding that they would meet to determine their next steps.
The case stems from an August 17, 2024, incident in which the Kano State Hisbah board apprehended Sankara alongside a married woman at an unfinished building. While Sankara has consistently denied the allegations, the court’s verdict has drawn criticism and raised questions about the handling of the case.
Buba maintains his stance, leaving the matter to divine judgment, while his legal team considers its options for challenging the ruling.
